Wild Tea Master Cho

Wild Tea Master Cho, or Treeman, as our friends at satotea know him, lives much of his life in the wild of the forests where he picks leaves from uncultivated tea trees. He combines a deep connection to the life of the ecosystem with sophisticated knowledge of tea production.

Master Cho farms gardens that have not been cultivated in the past, harvesting once yearly from trees that continue to grow wild. The combination of timeless and contemporary processes is on full display in his Wild GABA Oolong, for which the wild harvest is processed with the low-oxygen technique innovated in Japan in the 1980’s, producing a complex tea that is rich in the GABA molecule, celebrated for its relaxing, healthful effects. All of it is done by hand, an extremely labor-intensive devotion that comes through in the singular flavor that each cup offers.
